Explaining Design Sensibility

There are many myths and misconceptions about designing! What is pretty? What is ugly? Where can aesthetics and true art find a meeting ground?

Typically these questions are left to the universe of the traditional thought. Achieving good art and aesthetics has been left to human interpretation for centuries.

What is the basis of aesthetics and art appreciation?

The ideas and conclusions we draw from society are often influential in our ability to design with creative flare. Even the ugliest of designs are sometimes seen as true art. This is because design is really a product of common beliefs in aesthetics in the mind of each designer.

The designs a designer works up are reflections of their inner minds. There are no etched in stone design sensibility rules that designers MUST FOLLOW. In the 1960s the industry of designing began to make rules about grids, sizes and color combinations. But they are not always followed, nor should they be. Without creativity stepping out of the box the word would not exist. We see uniqueness because not everyone likes to follow rules for design sensibility.

This is why we have designs for weddings that range from formal to casual or colorful to black and white. For some, a design on a dime comes naturally while others may struggle with an idea that spawns a concept. At the art center college of design sensibility and information literacy is often professed. Many aspiring designers are being shown the newest methods to create a web site. With so many options and coding languages available a consulting process is generally accepted prior to designing a web page. A business step by step plan is needed for a design to get the big picture of a site.

Think about the areas that good design touches.... machine embroidery design, video game designers, brand positioning, designer promotion, commerce design, designing business cards, designing for the web and designs development. The best web design today is based on user simplicity combined with coding complexity. The general rule of thumb with good web-page deign is the more user friendly the web concept the more difficulty the coding is.

Design sensibility allows creative people to design products in ways that have not been seen before. A good example of programming and design coming to a meeting ground is 3d design for your house. Can you imagine buying your home based on a computer animated version. One that shows every wall, nook and cranny in your new home before construction is even thought of?

On the web today is where many of the best designers flaunt their works. You have brand presentation, high concept, image designs and web site design illustrated with a whole new mind. Designer web templates are made in original which become targets for imitators and copiers. Sensibility design will always be fragmenting the human collective. Sublimation and transformation give designers meaning and sense of purpose. Each and every project is a valuable learning experience only to provide improvement opportunity for future concepts.

The seven modern wonders often intrigue graphic designers. They cannot help but think that a higher level of design was at work during the creation of Egyptian Pyramids, Niagara Falls, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Statue of Zeus at Olympia, Colossus of Rhodes or Pharos of Alexandria. There are industrial design excellence awards attributed to such engineering marvels as Channel Tunnel (England & France), the CN Tower (Toronto), the Empire State Building (New York), Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco), Itaipu Dam (Brazil/Paraguay), Netherlands North Sea Protection Works (Netherlands) or Panama Canal (Panama). All designs these are a result of design sensibility on the ragged edge.

Today designing includes newsletters videos, the web, print media and television. There are more tools are available now that are free for artists to express themselves freely. When modern day design sensibility is applied people start learning new style, concepts and techniques. This changes the way they perceive the world around them, which introduces new thought processes into the way designs are developed. Take the fine editing craft which is done through video editing, for example. You are being manipulated by designers in video everyday. Reality TV show host are constantly trying to manipulate audiences. Most of the time you are entirely unaware of this but you are. New, inexperienced designers pick-up new authorship tools and become frightening to some designers that know proper aesthetics because they follow no rules that a seasoned designer may employ. I believe that the less preexisting notions of taste are the basis of powerful designs and what stands out beyond the norm.
