Restaurant Owner’s Business Card: A Personal Invitation to Dine
A crowded happy restaurant is the goal of every owner. Getting people to your location and attracting new business is a matter of self marketing. The restaurant owner’s business card is a personal invitation to dine. The goal is a professional inviting card with detailed location information.
Begin by selecting a neutral background color so as not to overwhelm the star of the show: the restaurant itself. Avoid beige or grey or other colors that do not remind you of good tasting home made food. Hints of red, orange and green are popular choices. If your restaurant is considered an upscale modern establishment, consider an abstract background design to set the tone.
For clip art go with either a sketch of photograph of the restaurant. Choose the exterior if the architecture is aesthetically pleasing. Go with an interior shot if that shows the restaurant in a better light. Sketches in black and white or single color on a white background give a sense of vintage to an eatery and make work for some restaurants.
Font type is a good chance to reflect the lettering of the restaurant’s signage, letterhead and menu. Take your time going through the hundreds available to find one that best matches your established branding.
Besides the usual contact information on the front, the restaurant business card deserves a well structured tagline. The tag line should be prominent, centered across the bottom or top of the card and provide a sense of the restaurant’s food and service. For example: “organic locally grown food served in a friendly welcoming atmosphere” paints a picture. As does: “great wings served fast.” Be sure to spend time on this aspect of the card.
A small hand drawn map and driving directions on the back side of the business card is a great addition for restaurants. This ensures those coming off the highway or visiting for the first time won’t get frustrated trying to find you and head off to a competitor. Use the space for opening times and delivery and dining information too.
Restaurants need to focus on good food at great prices during a tough economy. The business card is an invitation to dine and should reflect the restaurant and the owner’s personality.
