The professional bartender has completed a certification course, can make a great cocktail and knows how to listen without judging. In today’s busy world the life expectancy of a night club or new bar averages around 12 to 18 months. The career bartender must always be working to improve their network and placement. The bartender’s business card should be professional, confident and reflect experience and good judgment.

Metallic foiling is the ideal way to make your bartender’s business card stand out from the crowd. A little colored foiling may be a nice touch for bartenders who specialize in cocktails, night club work or private bartending. Avoid gold or silver in this circumstance as it may come across as a little “holiday.” Red or blue (but not together) on the first letter of your first and last name is just enough to make you shine.

Think fashion forward with the bartender’s business card and opt for fold over or half traditional size cards. As long as the length is the same as classic business cards a little creativity won’t hurt the wallet or rolodex factor. Fold over cards allow the recipient to prop open your card on their desk keeping you constantly in their thoughts. Use the extra space to list experience, qualifications and specialties.

Taglines are an important component on the bartender’s business card. Often taglines sum up experience and specialty drinks in a single sentence and make for a great conversation starter with both clients and potential employers. The tagline may be the only information an individual reads at first glance (due to placement in the center bottom of the card) so it’s important to make the right impression. Draft out a few taglines and asks friends and co-workers for a second opinion before finalizing your design.

Distribute the bartender’s business card on the job or during networking events. Regional bartending competitions are the place to get your name out there, find a new job and meet fellow bartenders and mixologists. Hand out your business card at every opportunity. The bartender is their own brand and must constantly market their skill set.
