Happy With Clay: Sculptor’s Business Card
The professional sculptor spends their time studying the world around them, both natural and societal and creating art pieces that reflect that world. Sculptors are employed by individual private clients, art galleries and large corporations. Sculptors often work on a commission basis or sell their pieces on consignment. The sculptor’s business card should reflect their creativity as well as their professionalism.
Consider choosing sand or stone colors for the sculptor’s business card. A dove gray business card makes potential clients think of stone and clay and the permanence of the natural world. A sculpture is a permanent piece of art and an investment for the buyer. Choosing the right colors to evoke this connection is important for the professional sculpting when they are trying to sell pieces and increase repeat business.
Be sure to include any professional credentials or associations on the professional sculptor’s business card. Use the tagline or bullet points (depending on the amount of information) to convey your experience and professional education. If you have won awards for your work or have it displayed in a national art museum, be sure to include this information on the reverse of the business card.
When it comes to choosing images for the sculptor’s business card avoid using the work of other people. Either include an image of yourself or an image of one of your pieces. The only danger in using an image of your own sculpture is biasing a potential client before they have seen all of your work. If you do include a photograph of a piece choose one that has won an award or received some sort of recognition.
Distribute the sculptor’s business card to potential clients and publicity agents. Be sure to leave a stack of business cards at all local art galleries and art supply stores, especially of you offer classes. Place a business card in the box or packaging of every sculpture that you sell to ensure your customer doesn’t forget who created art just for them.
