Handy Man Business Card: Do it All and Brand it Well
Whether you call yourself a jack of all trades, Mr. (or Mrs.) fixit or odd job Bob, the local handy man business is a popular choice these days. As people tighten their economical belts, household tasks such as plumping repairs, carpentry and painting have become the domain of the local handy man service. With lower rates and more personal service than the chain maintenance and repair firms, the local handy man (or woman) needs to work on branding themselves with well designed business cards.
Often, local repair services get work through the word of mouth system. By handing out cards to satisfied clients with a couple extra for their friends, you can quickly expand your customer base. Choosing tasteful but focused images and design and matching them with clear contact information is a must for the repair service business card.
Obvious clip art for handy man services are tool belts and leaky pipes. Be sure to use images that directly relate to your skill set. An image of roofing tiles when you only do plumbing is more than misleading. Be fun but focused and consider your established client base. Depending on your location and customers, tailor imagery to suit whether its more professional and serious or fun and humorous.
Consider purchasing a set of magnetic business cards to hand out to repeat clients so they can keep your information handy. Choose two sided or folded cards so you have room to detail your rates (a big issue these days) and perhaps create a rip off coupon for referrals. Don’t limit yourself by the localness of your operation. Treat your hand man services as you would any other professional business and make the effort to market and brand.
Leave home repairs business cards at the local hardware store, community center, chamber of commerce and town hall. This way you can gain from new arrivals in town or the locally established network to keep you busy. Order at least 1,000 cards so distribution and saturation of the market isn’t an issue.
