Business Card Networking Tips Part Two

As we first began on Monday, the latest blog postings are providing our readers with tips on how to properly network by using their business cards. Tonight is part two of our two part series dealing with business card networking tips. We have five incredibly important tips left to discuss and here they are:

  1. Always ask for a referral when handing out your business card. What does this mean? When you hand someone your business card don’t put them on the spot by asking them if their company is hiring anyone at the moment. Instead, you could say to them “please refer me to anyone that could use my services.” This will open more doors for better opportunities. When doing this, hand one person two business cards.
  2. Maximize every single meeting with others. It doesn’t matter if you are attending a school play or your son’s friend’s birthday party, make sure you have your business cards with you just in case you meet someone that should be given your business card. You never know what can happen at a per chance meeting.
  3. Be in the right place at the right time. Not everyone that attends a job fair is guaranteed to obtain a new job. If you are not receiving the results you have been looking for at these job fairs you should volunteer to work them instead. You are in a better position to meet executives since you are working on the inside.
  4. Follow up with a greeting card and not an email. This really does make a difference. It only takes two minutes to type a thank you and hit ’send’ on an email client. Instead, purchase a thank you card, write a note or letter, and then snail mail it to the person that interviewed you. This will get their attention more than anything else.
  5. Send a congratulations card. That’s right…congratulate a person in the company you are hoping to have hire you if you find out that they have just earned a promotion. This will grab their attention and you will not be forgotten and that is for sure.
